At Last

In Brussels I saw a lot of Africans at the Terminal, I felt it, I was close I was almost home.  In excitement a man from the previous flight saw me and asked “Are you also going to Accra?” when I said “no,” I could see a disappointed look on his face. There was a lady with her son, the son kept running around the terminal and she was speaking Rwandese to him, she greeted me very warmly with a gentle smile, mama Africa.

When we finally boarded I had an empty seat on my left and on the right was this really sweet Mama from Gulu. We had a nice introduction the plane took off and I fell asleep. I remember being woken up for food, this time I chose the fish, surprisingly it was not bad, it was better than the chicken I had on the previous flight.

The Mama from Gulu shared with me her stories about her life, she lived in Germany for 42 years and she’s finally in the process of resettling back to her home village, I was inspired. When she told me she does farming I told her I would like to visit her hopefully during this trip and she warmly welcomed the idea.

Flying over Mama Africa I was filled with excitement, finally we landed at Entebbe international airport in Uganda. I was smiling because for the first time in awhile everybody I saw looked like a family member I know. At the gate an airport employee told me welcome home, I said thank you, it’s been awhile. I’m back!

Iron Bird

It’s always my routine to listen to “Distant Relatives” Nas and Damian Marley, whenever I’m traveling, that’s still my favorite album to this day. The trip still hasn’t sunk in yet. We landed in Washington, had a 1 hour layover I got a chance to make my final calls in the US. My friend told me “Don’t eat the bread they give you on the plane.” We had a nice smooth take off. It hadn’t occurred to me I haven’t been in a huge iron bird like this since we came from Africa. The huge plane pierces through the skies you can almost touch the heavens. I couldn’t miss any moment of the take off.I sat next to an old couple, the wife asked where I was flying to I said “Uganda” and she said, ‘is that home or you are just visiting?’ I said “it’s home, I just haven’t been in awhile.” While flying I fell asleep I was woken up for dinner and guess what?  yes I chose the chicken, what can I say, Chappelle raised me. I did not eat the bread, somehow after dinner I went back to sleep. I woke up sweating heavily, I felt like vomiting and I wasn’t feeling good at all, so I got up and walked around and soon I was feeling better. We landed in Brussels  7+hours later after leaving Washington, it was already morning. European morning, cold blueish. My feet were hurting from sitting  too long. Now gotta walk on them, maybe I need foot massage lol the African terrain will definitely help with that. As I sit and reminisce about this new chapter of my life, it will be difficult with no doubt, but I think I am ready, I am ready for mama Africa to teach me about what I have forgotten about myself. Now on to the next flight.

It’s today

In preparation for the big day. I spent all my time yesterday getting all my music files and all the gadgets ready. Didn’t realize my whole night was gone. By the time I went to bed I had only 1 hour and 30 minutes to sleep. Around 1 hour and 15 minutes later my brother was waking me up. you know how that morning sleep feels, that laziness you feel and the bed feels magnetic. YES! I did not want to get up. Anyways 3:45 am we got on the road headed for LAX.I had a yearning though, I didn’t eat breakfast so we decided to stop and get some tea at the gas station. A little while back I stopped drinking black tea because of its acidity, so I always drink herbal teas especially green tea. bedb8675-e693-4322-9ec1-9ccb76041940Herbal teas are usually not too concentrated so what I discovered in my tea journey is that sometimes blending different teas give you such a unique flavor, so I’m always doing this! And finally we are boarding now. Africa see you soon.
